Mail & Calendar 0.10.1 release

This release carries 11 changes, and most of them are about how mail arrives. The first sync of an IMAP account downloads its messages several times faster and carries on through a dropped connection; a JMAP account is faster too on servers that allow many messages to be fetched at once. An IMAP account now uses at most five connections, so a server that limits them no longer makes a correct password look wrong. And a newly added IMAP account shows new mail as it arrives, rather than after a restart.

The latest version is available through our website: https://allodia.eu/mail-calendar

Store availability: :white_check_mark: this version is live on all supported platforms.

Changes are grouped by where they landed. The first section reached every app. The sections after it cover changes that did not reach all of them, so a change that landed on two apps is listed under both.

:glowing_star: Every app: macOS, iPhone & iPad, Windows, Android and Linux

:sparkles: New

  • Download an IMAP account’s messages in batches, over several connections. The first sync of an IMAP account now downloads its messages several times faster, and carries on through a dropped connection.

:wrench: Fixed

  • A mail server’s connection limit is no longer reported as a wrong password. When a mail server temporarily turns a sign-in away because of a connection limit, the app no longer says your password is wrong or asks you to sign in again.
  • Download a JMAP account’s messages in batches where the server offers it. The first sync of a JMAP account downloads its messages faster on servers that allow many to be fetched at once.
  • Push a new IMAP account’s mail from its first sync. New mail on a newly added IMAP account now appears as it arrives, instead of only after the app is restarted.
  • Share an IMAP account’s connections across its folders. IMAP accounts now use at most five connections across all their folders, so a server that limits connections no longer makes your password look wrong; push now watches up to four folders per account.

:desktop_computer: macOS

  • Keep downloaded mail out of backups. Mail downloaded to your iPhone, iPad or Mac is no longer included in iCloud or Time Machine backups, so it no longer takes up your iCloud storage; after a restore it is downloaded again from your mail server.
  • Link the Terms of Use and the privacy policy beside a subscription. The subscription screen now links the Terms of Use and the privacy policy beside the Subscribe buttons.

:mobile_phone: iPhone & iPad

  • A quieter folder pane on iPad and iPhone. On iPad, the folder pane no longer repeats the app’s name above your accounts, and on iPad and iPhone Calendar, Contacts and Settings now sit on the pane’s own background, with no folders showing beneath them.

:robot: Android

  • Back up Android settings without the mail. The app’s settings are included in your device backup again: downloaded mail made the app too large for Android’s backup, so it is now left out and downloaded again from your mail server after a restore.

:penguin: Linux

  • Keep the Linux calendar’s day names on screen, and draw the hours it scrolls to. The calendar on Linux now keeps the day names and all-day events at the top while you scroll, and shows every event in the hours you scroll to.
  • Linux: an icon beside each Settings category, and a real one on an empty folder. On Linux, each Settings category now has an icon beside its name, and an empty folder shows an inbox instead of a broken image.
